The Philosopher is the journal of the PSE (Philosophical Society of England), a charitable organisation founded in 1913 to provide an alternative to the formal university-based discipline.
We currently:
Publish two print issues per year, as well as a “third publication” (generally an edited collection);
Upload one online article per week on a Sunday, and occasionally a second one on a Wednesday.
Host online events series three times a year (with an associated YouTube channel);
Run a variety of different groups/classes/seminars;
Send out a weekly newsletter via Substack;
Collaborate with Alexis Papazoglou on his podcast, "The Philosopher and the News".
Our understanding of what constitutes “philosophy” is broad and extends beyond the narrow confines typically set by the academy. We take seriously the interdisciplinary nature of contemporary philosophy, encouraging contributions from historians, cultural theorists, geographers, psychologists, classicists, activists, artists, and more.
