thesecondopinion is a nonprofit founded in 1969 by the late William (Lefty) Lester Rogers, M.D., thoracic surgeon at Stanford and founding member of the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. The mission of thesecondopinion is to provide free, comprehensive second opinions to adults in California diagnosed with cancer. Our group of over 70 board-certified bay area volunteer physicians provides patients with clarity, compassion and choice in making life-altering decisions that often come with cancer. Their diverse experience with cancer allows us to provide face-to-face patient centered service (at no cost to the patient) not duplicated by any other agency in the U.S.! We aim to reduce cancer disparities so every cancer patient in California has access to a comprehensive second opinion and full understanding of their diagnosis regardless of age, race, health coverage, socioeconomic status, language, or geographical location.
