The Sentencing Foundation is the logistical support program for a form of restorative justice known as 'Resource-Based Sentencing and Supervision.' This program can be used by all criminal court judges, who will be linked with appropriate reentry resources to be utilized during the sentencing process.
Resource-Based Sentencing and Supervision is a comprehensive program which acts as a proactive system of accountability designed to reduce recidivism and only incarcerate those who need to be for public safety reasons. This system of accountability requires sentencing judges to identify the reason(s) for the offense, order conditions which directly address the identified reason(s), engage with the defendant to construct a comprehensive plan on precisely how to meet the ordered condition(s), and conduct periodic status hearings to hold the defendant accountable to make reasonable progress on fulfilling the sentencing condition(s).
All sentencing judges and reentry resources, as well as interested volunteers and interns are invited to get involved!
