The SHEA Project: Salons for Health Education and Access is a community-based, public health education initiative that transforms beauty salons into hubs of health education and empowerment for Black women, with a focus on reproductive, dermatologic, and mental health.
This project aims to use accessible and culturally inclusive educational materials, cosmetologists as lay health workers, and in-person educational workshops by racially congruent healthcare providers to bridge inequities in health literacy that contribute to health disparities for Black women.
