The WestEnd Commons is a project of St Matthews Non Profit Housing Inc., a partnership between Grain of Wheat Church-Community and St Matthew’s Anglican Church.
The current upper floors of St. Matthew’s Anglican Church have been transformed into 26 homes for families: single parent families, newcomers to Canada, First Nation’s families, people with mental health challenges, and others. The WestEnd Commons consists of a 1,000 sq. foot atrium, 4 one-bedroom, 15 two-bedroom, 5 three-bedroom, and 2 four-bedroom apartments. On November 1, 2014 we began welcoming families to their new homes.
For 40 years the lower level of 641 St. Matthews Ave. has been a Neighbourhood Resource Center (NRC). Many different agencies and community groups work in the NRC to support the people of West Central Winnipeg. Rental spaces offered by the NRC include: the commercial kitchen, a large assembly hall, meeting rooms, and office space.
