Born in Sacramento, CA, Thomas Amaro, spent a few formative years in North Plate, NE. This is the setting for the unsettling events of his thesis novel, Imposition. In his youth, he wrote many novels, short stories and poems, but he believed that money was worth more than dreams, so he built his career in IT. After many years, Thomas realized he was unhappy. He had to carry out his life-long dream of being a writer.
Thomas Amaro went back to school, starting at the College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, CA. After only one term, he ran the now defunct student paper, the Canyon Call. There, he chased down fires and car crashes, and won six awards at the Journalism Association of Community Colleges. His first taste of publication came when he sent a short story and three poems to the campus literary magazine. For the poetry, the school honored him at an awards event.
After moving to the University of California, Riverside, Thomas Amaro spent his time as Production Manager of the Highlander. As a senior, he published again in the campus journal Mosaic. During this time, he met his companion, Estrella Amaro. They met each day in front of the bookstore until, one day, he asked her to come home with him.
About six years after returning to school, Thomas Amaro received his MFA from UCR in Creative Writing. In the next year, he will marry the love of his life, bring their new baby into the world, and send his thesis novel, Imposition, for publication.
