The construction sector is responsible for 40% of CO2 emissions, 50% of all extracted materials and 35% of waste generated. TIMBERHAUS is the new EU-co-funded project aimed at decreasing these numbers and reaching Europe’s climate policy targets by developing innovative circular solutions for sustainable wood construction.
To reach this goal, TIMBERHAUS will:
develop wood processing technologies based on machine learning and AI to prototype wood construction products incorporating underutilised wood resources and recycled wood
- design circular wood building blueprints incorporating three aspects: local cultural traditions, design languages, and human health and well-being
develop new methodologies to quantify the carbon removal benefits of wood construction products and other building materials
- collaborate with European cities and their stakeholders to co-design project solutions
- contribute to the New European Bauhaus initiative
