Times Square Art Square (TSAS) Foundation is the nonprofit organization behind Art Square, a public art project committed to transforming Times Square from the world's largest advertising space into the world's largest, open-air gallery. TSAS was established in 2009 in support of certain ideals, including that: art should be more accessible; art and commercialism can not merely coexist, but actually advance one another; and public space should reflect and advance the public within it.
Art Square will scale each year to involve more billboards, installations, pop-up galleries, performances and time. Hrag Vartanian has been appointed curator for the inaugural exhibition. Rafaël Rozendaal was named the first artist.
