TJWHO DESIGN

TJWHO®, established in 2018, is a universal brand and design company that offers a modern refinement of cross-cultural imbued designs. One of our key design methodologies involves finding similarities within the African context and the many cultures of the world and exploring them to create new interpretations that are expressive, functional and representative. Using several mediums of design, we aim to showcase innovative and fashionable concepts that are greatly underexplored. Founder and creative director, Taju Ibrahim, is a graduate of Architectural Technology - Nottingham Trent University, UK - Driven by passion, majority of his design skill-set in fashion have been self-taught over the years while undergoing only a few months of professional training in tailoring. Raised in Northern Nigeria and of the Yoruba descent, his cultural background and upbringing as well as his years of study and travelled experiences play monumental roles in his refined outlook in design. Representation matters when designing products that people can feel a connection too, thus, tapping into references such as West-African culture, European bespoke tailoring, Japanese textiles and Moroccan embroidery; we are able to cultivate several signatures easily recognizable and distinguishable within our designs. These signatures are not limited to fashion but pour into several other design fields of our interest including; accessory design, furniture design, retail design and interior architecture. “#DesignedinAfrica, #MadeonEarth” - a slogan imprinted on our garment labels is further representation of our methodology whereby different elements such as the textiles and the hardware that form a product may be sourced from more than one continent and assembled by a multitude of craftsmen. TJWHO collection pieces are sold limitedly and are currently produced by a team of experienced tailors and artisans in Lagos, Nigeria.
