The Malcolm Whales Foundation is a charity dedicated to 'taking steps to beat cancer'.
The charity runs several events each year, including the extremely popular Dorset Walk, held every July, which sees over 500 secondary students from various schools participating. Additionally, the 10 Hours of Sport event, held in May, involves hundreds of KS3 students from multiple schools. https://tmwf.co.uk/events/
With the over £700,000 we have raised, we have supported families in need, provided counseling, granted wishes, organised wellbeing breaks, sponsored various worthy causes, and funded our two major projects: The Woodlands Gardens project at Hinchingbrooke Hospital and our Lakeside Retreat in Cambridgeshire. Why?
Malcolm Whales was only 55 years old when he passed away. Malcolm was my father (Damien Whales); he was a very active man who always lived life to the fullest. Unfortunately, when he was diagnosed with bowel cancer, it had already spread throughout his body. Anyone who has been affected by cancer will understand the utter devastation it causes. The impact on my life has been immeasurable.
Before my father’s death in 2008, he had become involved in endurance challenges, particularly long-distance walks. In 2009, in his memory, I organised the first 'Dorset Walk' along the South West Coastal Path. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect it to be as successful as it has been! We started with 30 students in 2009, raising £6,000. By 2025, now with more than 500 walkers we will have raised a total in excess of £700,000.
The Malcolm Whales Foundation introduces young people to charitable causes and the positive impact they can have.
