This system is a modernised form of Aikido that aims to retain the concepts and philosophies while incorporating other disciplines. Sean believed that the most effective defence can only be conjured when the offence was well understood. As a Chinese saying goes, “知彼知己，百战不殆；不知彼而知己，一胜一负；不知彼，不知己，每战必殆” (Knowing both your enemies and yourself, you need not fear defeats even in a hundred battles; knowing only yourself and not your enemies, your triumph in battles are a mystery; knowing neither your enemies nor yourself, your defeat comes easy in every battle). As such, he implemented Muay Thai, one of the most efficient stand up martial arts in the world, into NGA which compliments and improves the capability to perform aikido techniques effectively. Sean also believed that martial arts are more than just about fighting, but also about self improvement and self actualisation. Building a strong foundation is key to having sustainable growth. Yes, another Chinese saying, “ 练武不练功，到老一场空” (Training without the fundamentals, will leave you with nothing as age catches up).
