The Tour for Diversity in Medicine (T4D), a grassroots initiative conceived by former medical student leaders, seeks to bring premedical enrichment activities to underrepresented minority undergraduate students at campuses across the U.S. Amongst academic and political circles, there is a nationally recognized need for the diversification of the health professions workforce.
In 2009, U.S. Surgeon General Regina Benjamin, MD described this need most succinctly: “Unless the current trend is reversed, our country will see a growing ethnic and racial disconnect between those who receive care and those who provide that care.”
