We believe that the complex nature of the tourism industry; its climate impacts (especially though aviation); and its potential for positive influence and transformative change, necessitate the creation of an industry-specific Tourism Declares a Climate Emergency initiative.
Our aims, structure and approaches are based on those of other similar campaigns that have declared a climate emergency for their industry sectors. Tourism Declares has three aims:
Network
Support a global collective of industry leaders, who are united in their public declaration of the climate emergency. Collaborate with existing aligned networks outside our sector.
Support
Deliver resources to help businesses and organisations set and deliver upon their Climate Emergency Plans. Provide an opportunity to learn, share and support one another.
Advocate
Amplify individual signatories’ calls for action, positioning ourselves as an advocate for the urgent changes needed to accelerate the transition towards carbon-free tourism.
