Townbroek is a Job Creation Initiative for women in a township in Cape Town.
Why
In Cape Town most coloured and black people still live in townships, far from the city centre. Access to the labour market is limited by this segregation as most jobs are in the ‘white’ city centre. This is an important factor that leads to unemployment and poverty. It is our opinion that to contribute to a change of this situation and to empower women, a major difference can be achieved by creating jobs with fair incomes.
How
We bring work to talented women from Lavender Hill, a township in Cape Town. Also our profit is reinvested by the women, in their community.
What
1) We make organic kids overalls. We use only 100% organic cottons that are GOTS certified.
2) We develop and produce products (all textile fashion items) for companies in South Africa who like to produce socially but lack access to a township.
