TRADA Kottayam

The All Kerala Joint Christian Temperance Movement, founded in 1961 by all the Christian Bishops of Kerala, led the crusade against alcoholism and drug addiction through its diocesan and parish-level units across Christian churches in Kerala. During the 1980s, key leaders of the movement—Mar Joseph Pallikaprampil (Bishop of Palai & Patron of TRADA), the Metropolitan of the Mar Thoma Church, Rev. Fr. George Kolath (then General Secretary of the Temperance Movement), and Sr. Dr. Joan Chunkapura MMS (Secretary of TRADA)—recognized the urgent need for dedicated treatment centers for individuals battling addiction. This realization led to the establishment of TRADA (Total Response to Alcohol and Drug Abuse) on September 7, 1987, as a charitable organization committed to providing effective addiction treatment and raising public awareness about the dangers of substance abuse. 🌟 Vision An addiction, AIDS, and domestic violence-free society. 🎯 Mission To train psychologists, social workers, and counselors with personal integration and professional competence, and to provide contextually relevant, socially inclusive, and acceptable mental healthcare support to all in need. 🏥 3 Wings of TRADA I.TRADA IRCA (Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts) Recognized by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, it offers comprehensive treatment programs for individuals battling substance abuse, focusing on holistic recovery and rehabilitation. II.TRADA Institute of Social Sciences Affiliated with the State Resource Centre, Kerala, and the Christian Medical Association of India, this institute offers various PG Diploma and Certificate Programs. It also provides comprehensive training and internship opportunities for aspiring counsellors and students. III.TRADA KAVAL Programme A specialized program under the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Govt of Kerala, providing psycho-social care for children in conflict with the law, promoting their mental well-being.
