Starting as coffee & tea retailers in the 1980s with coffee roasted for us in nearby Richmond-upon-Thames by Francois, a dear friend and experienced coffee roaster, we soon opened a café on our own premises. It wasn’t long before other cafes and restaurants were asking us to use the same coffee, so we decided it was time to start roasting. Our original, rather old roaster sited in our first shop in Victoria Road, (Surbiton) expelled a beautiful aroma whilst roasting pulling in extra customers. Since moving to Ewell Road we still employ this technique with a more up to date Petroncini 2 kilo roaster. Our expert roasters can be found most days preparing our specialist micro lots, available to the public from our shop or on line. Over the years we have changed roasters a few times, recently acquiring the Probat 60 drum roaster that has given us improved consistency and a greater capability to meet the increasing demand for our specialist coffees. Traders Coffee has recently become "employee-owned". It is fitting that a company driven by its employees has become owned by them. Always going the extra mile!
