About Transplantation and Donation Sciences MSBS, PSM Program

The Transplantation and Donation Sciences (TaDS), MSBS–PSM Program at The University of Toledo is the only one of its kind in the entire country. This revolutionary program is strategically designed to train qualified individuals in facilitating the entire organ donation process. TaDS is distinctive in that it offers two separate tracks - a full-time, face to face (f2f) track for individuals without an Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) affiliation, and an all-online track for experienced individuals already working in the industry who desire to further enhance their administrative career goals by obtaining a master's degree. The online track offers full-time workers the advantage of completing the degree at their own pace, allowing versatility for active lifestyles. Another unique aspect of the TDS program is the significant amount of industry support from organizations and prominent individuals in the field. This is evident by the abundance of extremely generous scholarships awarded annually and the guest lecturers that come from all over the nation to meet and mentor our students each semester. The TaDS program involves three semesters of study. The first semester is mostly didactic, learning the medical applications of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and pharmacology. In addition, there is lecture and fieldwork in the various areas of the donation and transplantation field. The second semester focuses on the more specific and in-depth work of a transplant coordinator. There is an on-call element during this semester where the student will accompany a Transplant Coordinator on the job during organ donor cases and other clinical experiences. During this semester, the student will also work with patients and families through a variety of learning experiences. The final semester culminates in the clinical internship experience. If the student is already in a clinical position, their regular work experience will count towards their internship requirements.
