Treegos is made up of Luis Trigo and his wife, Emily Vargo. They met in 2012 while
Emily was stopping off to get in some quality beach time in Aveiro, Portugal,
before starting her Spanish studies in Santiago, Spain. She saw his picture on the
popular travel website, Couchsurfing.org, and decided to reach out. Luis wrote
back, and they met for coffee. They fell in love, and the rest is history!
Luis moved to the USA in 2013, where he and Emily settled in Annapolis, Maryland.
During a trip to Luis' home country of Portugal, Emily and Luis were inspired by all
of the cork products they saw in the stores. The cork's beauty, uniqueness,
earthiness, and eye-catching, rustic textures made a lasting impression on the
couple. They knew cork would be a huge hit back home in the USA, so they decided to embark on a journey to bring it to the states.
Why Cork and Treegos:
Cork is the national tree of Portugal, native to the Mediterranean basin. Harvesting
cork is a centuries-old tradition, requiring 2 people, carefully carving the cork from
the tree, taking utmost care so as to not harm the tree. This labor-intensive
process cannot be replaced by machines. After harvesting, the tree is left alone
for the next 9 years. The process is the epitome of sustainability. We pride
ourselves in the fact that we've chosen a material to produce our bow-ties that is
renewable, versatile, eco-conscious, all the while supporting a small business while
