We are the creators, developers, and manufacturers of PenPal, a revolutionary system for monitoring the internal micro-environment of research animal cages. Originally designed as a welfare monitor PenPal provides near real time warnings of dangerous changes in cage conditions including flooding or dry water bottle. The data collected from our sensors is stored in a cloud database to create a journal of every day in the life of a research study with time stamped entries of temperature, humidity and light exposure along with ultrasonic mouse vocalizations. Applying aspects of Artificial Intelligence we are working toward decoding certain mouse vocalizations and correlating environment, situations and behavior to provide a tool for developing new understandings of metabolism and digital biomarkers. Birth of pups, frequency of urination and additional biological functions are subject to discovery through systematic data analysis of the detailed landscape provided by PenPal.
