About Trivane Floating Wind

Trivane is a floating offshore wind platform in the form of a semi-submersible trimaran. It weather vanes about a turret mooring at the bow. In September 2021 BEIS provided generous funding to support the development of Trivane. Any standard tower and 15 MW turbine is supported on the stern of the centre hull. The turret is at the bow of the forward floater, which is the forward part of the centre hull. This is a column turret having plain bearings. Trivane has had considerable experience of these turrets via work at London Marine Consultants (LMC) over 30 years Analysis of Trivane’s design has been by LMC and others 1:50 scale model tests were carried out at FloWave in Edinburgh during 2023 and 2024 Major findings of the work on these designs include: - the platform will cost much less if built in concrete instead of steel. - the streamlined hull results in low mooring line forces and hence low mooring system costs. - trim is small because this weather-vaning design can be pre-ballasted by the bow in the at-rest condition. Roll and list are very small. Active ballasting is not required. - Steel versions, and the stell pars of the concrete versions, are all built in stiffened flat plate and not as cylinders. This means that many yards and fabrication facilities can build these structures Investors and partners are now invited to join Trivane in building and deploying a Demonstrator and Commercial versions.
