TS One has developed a transportation concept with so-called rail Automated Guided Vehicles (rAGV) using the existing railway network.
Inspired by the efficiency of luggage handling systems in major airports, these principles were applied to the handling of containers using the existing railway network:
Like a suitcase that is dropped off a container is put on an rAGV and brought to its destination as an inidvidual unit an not as part of a large train.
The rAGV is self propelled flatbed rail vehicle optimised for containers with on board intelligence, detection, navigation and communication equipment, guided by route control software.
The rAGV concept enhances the capacity of the railway system to absorb modal shift volumes. It is more flexible than conventional trains and more sustainable than road tranportation. Furthermore it offers a solution for congestion problems around major ports and industrial areas.
