Turner’s House, Sandycombe Lodge, was built by 1813 to the designs of England’s great landscape painter, J.M.W. Turner, working here as his own architect to create a quiet retreat for himself, away from the pressures of the London art world.
Turner‘s House is the only surviving building designed and lived in by the great landscape painter JMW Turner. The house is an elegant Regency period property restored to its original appearance and open for all to enjoy. Towards the end of his life Turner stated that if he could live at again he would’ve been an architect.
Turner’s House is regularly open to the public. It is the commitment of the trust to host an annual exhibition of original Turner paintings. This is supplemented by a program of talks and events. For further information please click here- www.turnershouse.org
