Looking for a writer? I’m a freelance journalist, copywriter and editor based in Cape Town, South Africa. I write as a journalist and for corporates and agencies. My specialties are business-to-business and technology writing. I like unpacking complex ideas so they are more easily understood — especially when it involves innovation taking place in South Africa, and the rest of Africa. Even though my journalism career started in the last century (!) I have always first and foremost been an online writer — editorial, PR and web copy. For the past few years I have also written for print publications and navigated pesky print lead times. This combination of “old-fashioned” print feature writing plus the multimedia story-telling capabilities of online — both desktop and mobile — has brought me to an interesting place. Recently I have turned my attention to the opportunities of both long-form writing and transmedia story-telling — for telling the stories of brands, and also reporting on the world. What’s on my radar? Opensource software (OSS), transmedia storytelling, mobile money, mobilisation (and indeed, mobilization), long-form writing/new journalism, the evolution of language and communication, technology as an enabler, startups in Africa, mobile in Africa, alpacas, trail running, food trends and food security, marine conservation, diversity, South Africa.
