Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade was established in 1864 and was the first Volunteer Life Brigade in the UK.
Today, it is run as a charity to provide 24-7 Search and Rescue services and has an established maritime museum at the Watch House on Spanish Battery, Tynemouth. The museum is open to the public at the weekends in the summer and also by appointment but please check the website for opening house
