We are a non-profit network and community providing policy advice and advancing new ideas regarding diabetes type 1.
The think tank is run by people with type 1 diabetes, healthcare professionals and others working in the field of chronic disease management.
We do not have a house or any paid staff but work voluntarily representing a shared set of values:
1) People before the system - Treatment and care should be centered around people with type 1 diabetes not the healthcare system or the pharmaceutical industry.
2) People before the disease - language matters, it might seem trivial, but we are people living with chronic disease, not diabetics.
3) Knowledge - People living with type 1 diabetes are their own main healthcare professional 24/7/365. This requires that we have access to evidence-based knowledge and insights equal to nurses, doctors and diabetes educators, especially when it comes new drugs and technologies.
4) Democracy - People with type 1 diabetes should be represented in the boards of all major institutions dedicated to diabetes care. Our insights are needed.
5) Network - peer to peer collaboration in the diabetes type 1 community makes the difference.
