An invite-only society offered to students at the top 1/5th of their senior class or the top 1/8th of their junior class. Tau Beta Pi is a national honor society for engineering students in the US and was founded in 1885. It is the oldest engineering honor society and the second-oldest collegiate honor society in the US. It currently has 261 collegiate chapters in the US. The American University of Sharjah was approved to be the first international chapter (#262).
