UBC Breast Reconstruction Program

The Breast Reconstruction Program in the Division of Plastic Surgery at UBC focuses on research that aims to improve the health and quality of care for women diagnosed with breast cancer and undergoing breast reconstruction in British Columbia. The burden of cancer is a growing challenge for Canadians given our aging population and rising incidence of cancer diagnoses. There is an imminent need to support efforts in cancer surveillance and control using provincial data registries that collect health data on patients and systems of care. The Breast Reconstruction Program in the Division of Plastic Surgery at UBC aims to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) programming to support breast cancer surveillance at the provincial level by integrating digitized extracted data into the British Columbia (BC) provincial cancer registry to develop prediction models and to support data mining in cancer research. This technology will contribute to the development, expansion, and maturation of AI technology for use in cancer research at a population level.
