UC Disaster Resilience Network

With the proper organization and support, the University of California's extensive talent pool represents one of the most powerful disaster resilience clusters in the world. Our ability to tackle extreme challenges is enhanced through collaboration across academic, NGO, community, and governmental sectors. Only by working together comprehensively will we advance the science of disaster resilience, uniquely addressing the complex, interconnected challenges that threaten communities across California and the globe. This approach high-octanes our Core Operational Pillars: COORDINATE || FACILITATE || EDUCATE || INVESTIGATE Officially inaugurated in 2021 after years of grassroots organizing across the UC, UC DRN provides a platform for collating talent; matching UC resources with external needs; conducting research; training leaders and researchers to contribute to resilience, thereby assisting communities facing unprecedented and growing challenges. Backed by science and the multiplicative strength of the ten-campus UC system, UC DRN: *Informs action that considers all facets of prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery, including the health, safety, socioeconomics, equity, and environmental sustainability of communities; *Mobilizes talent across the UC system to help overcome existential threats that disasters and other crises pose to society; and *Matches resources with external needs and supports research and training to contribute to resilience, thereby assisting communities facing unprecedented challenges.
