About United Council on Welfare Fraud
The United Council on Welfare Fraud is the only national membership association dedicated to protecting the integrity of public assistance programs – equipping members across the industry with crucial resources for collaboration, professional development, and advocacy. Our volunteer membership organization convenes investigative agencies, recovery specialists, and legal professionals working toward the detection, elimination and prosecution of those who fraudulently pursue or obtain government benefits. Collaboration: As a membership organization, we connect individuals to a structure of support across regions, offering the benefits of strong personal connections and camaraderie while also providing timely aid and vital information to investigators and eligibility workers. Training: Our priority is to empower members to do excellent work with the best possible information, guidance, and resources available. UCOWF national conferences keep members up to date on the latest developments in the realm of fraud prevention, detection, and investigation, along with building stronger relationships and strengthening investigative networks. And our nationally-respected welfare fraud investigator certification (CWFI) creates opportunities for improved organizational outcomes and meaningful professional development. Advocacy: At our core, we are passionate about protecting the honest citizens whose taxes sustain welfare programs as well as protecting our neighbors in need. We work to ensure all people are protected against those who seek to find and exploit weaknesses in the federal assistance eligibility processes and programs. We have the capability to educate and advocate for change against eroding standards at numerous levels – from local to federal government– by aligning and organizing our members around effective messaging to communicate data, relevant information, and factual accounts of welfare fraud and its wide-ranging impact.
