Sri Ramakrishnadev (1836-1886) was the founder of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission. In 19th century history, Sri Ramakrishnad Paramahamsa is a man whose generous words spread all over the world beyond India. His beloved disciple Swami Vivekananda (1863-1902 AD) is one of the main heroes of modern India who established the Ramakrishna Math and the Ramakrishna Mission to spread the Guru's message to all people. Both the Ramakrishna Math and the Ramakrishna Mission are legally and economically independent institutions, but ideologically and administratively the two are inextricably linked. Ramakrishna Math has many branches where the Ramakrishna Mission is carried out. Such as school-college, hospital-service, rural and rural development etc. These two institutions work together to keep alive this innovative modern spiritual movement named after Ramakrishna.
The ideology that underpins this movement has its roots in the ancient Upanishad ideals of India. We find its reflection in the utterances of the Vedic sages. Indian history and Indian philosophy are multi-faceted and multi-coloured, yet Vedanta philosophy stands supreme among them. There is nowhere else such a vast range and depth. Sri Ramakrishna's life is a modern interpretation of this Vedantadarshan, which helps us overcome the needs and obstacles of modern life. Swami Vivekananda became a world traveler with a vow to bring this Vedanta as reflected in Sri Ramakrishna's life from home to home, and eventually the Ramakrishna Revolution began through the Ramakrishna Math and Mission. Today, not only Gairikadhari sannyasins, but countless people of different ages from all walks of life are members of the Ramakrishna family. The Ramakrishna Math and Mission believed in the unity of all religions, engaged in the pursuit of Shiva-service through Jiva-seva; Sectarianism, blind fundamentalism, proselytism, The Ramakrishna Math-Mission has nothing to do with Gandhian mysticism or Siddhai, or superstition.
