The Uganda Lacrosse Association (ULA) is the legally registered, and World Lacrosse recognized national governing body for the sport of lacrosse in Uganda.
ULA believes in the passion, intensity, joy, confidence, and sense of community that lacrosse brings to those who play, coach, and love the sport. From practice to playoffs, we work to make the game better and safer in our nation, ensuring that nothing stands in the way of a player’s excitement for the sport.
We evolve and grow the sport through innovative standards and best practices to advance coach and player development, participation and safety within the fun of the game and its inherent values. As the sport’s national governing body and member of the World Lacrosse the global governing body, ULA also partners with and is fully recognized by the National Council of Sports (NCS).
Our dedication to lacrosse pushes us to provide the best certifications, resources and programs, keeping the spirit and integrity of the game alive for the thousands of athletes who enjoy the fun and benefit of playing.
In Uganda, the sport was introduced in 2009 by American Lacrosse Coach Kevin Dugan and Maurice Sserunkuma working with Fields of Growth, USA. In 2011, the sport was boosted with a donation by Notre Dame University, USA to Makerere University Business School.
Uganda gained global attention in 2014, coming away with wins over Korea and Argentina and being featured on the cover of the September 2014 edition of Lacrosse Magazine, a publication of US Lacrosse, the sport’s governing body in the United States. The Cranes' journey to the 2014 Championship is the subject of a documentary called Kandote (Kandote is a Ugandan word meaning “Let me dream”), a film by former Johns Hopkins Lacrosse player Will McCance.
Uganda's appearance at the 2023 World Lacrosse Championship will be its third consecutive, with Uganda holding the distinction of being the only African to participate in the Championship.
