While the world needs to build 2 billion new homes by the end of the century, rapid urbanization is leading to a growing population living in slums or informal settlements. In 2018, this population totaled 1 billion people, 80% living in Asia and Africa. By 2030, 3’000’000’000 people will require adequate and affordable housing. New construction methods and materials are needed to respond to these challenges. Indeed, sand for concrete is already scarce, while useful wood feedstock for construction is barely available in the Global South.
Construction System UHCS® aims to be a key solution in providing fair access to sustainable housing at scale. Construction System UHCS® is an award-winning, modular, load-bearing and patented column-beam structure consisting of the repeated assembly of three thermoplastic composite profiles made from a 100% recycled plastic matrix.
The extruded profiles are made from fiber-reinforced composite materials based on a recycled single plastic matrix and can thus be fully reused and recycled, making Construction System UHCS® a low-carbon and virtuous construction solution.
The core of the product is a prefabricated module of 20m2 designed for rapid assembly and disassembly. The product is modular by design, made from profiles assembled into columns, beams, structural frames and finally into insulated, sealed and fully equipped living or utility spaces.
Flexibility is the key word here. With a relentless focus on customer needs, single- or multi-modules living or utility spaces can be designed and installed. Customers can order endless surface and architectural configurations.
The first 20m2 living space prototype will be built in the first half of Q2 2021 while the first certified residential project will be built and opened to the public in Q3 2021.
