Student Design Team in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at UMass. The team’s role is to provide undergraduate students with the ability to be a part of an student-run team. Each year the team competes in the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics’ (AIAA) annual Design, Build, Fly competition. Students spend the year designing and building an RC aircraft which will be flown at the competition to complete a series of missions on the ground and in the air. Through the design process students will learn engineering skills in aerodynamics, component design, manufacturing, and electronics as well as teamwork in a professional setting.
