Umurage Growth is a Rwanda-based non-profit organization that was initially established under the umbrella of Global Grassroots, an international NGO that ceased its operations in East Africa. As Global Grassroots phased out, Umurage Growth was formed to carry forward its mission, focusing on empowering grassroots women and young women in self-discovery, personal growth, and positive action. The name “Umurage” means “legacy” in Kinyarwanda, reflecting our deep commitment to building upon the vision and impact created through Conscious Social Change projects in East African communities. We believe that meaningful transformation starts with individual awareness and action for the greater good. Women, especially those in vulnerable circumstances, often have a strong commitment to the well-being of their communities but lack access to the necessary resources to fully realize their potential. With the right support, these women can become powerful agents of social change. Our approach includes mindfulness practices, social venture skills, independent management of social issues, financial literacy, human resource development, access to information networks, and participation in monitoring and evaluation. By equipping women with these tools, we help them build resilience, take leadership roles, and drive long-term transformation within their communities. Ultimately, empowering women leads to healing, social progress, and stronger communities. Through our work, we aim to uplift voices, foster confidence, and create a ripple effect of positive change.
