About UNITY-6G
UNITY-6G (unified archItecture for open RAN-enabled distributed, scalable, and sustainability-enhanced 6G networks) is an SNS-funded project focusing on tackling energy efficiency and sustainability challenges in networked services. It leverages artificial intelligence, machine learning, and distributed ledger technologies to secure data exchange and foster trust between parties. The project also explores various network access technologies, including non-terrestrial networks, non-public networks, and approaches like open radio access networks. The primary goal of UNITY-6G is to develop energy-efficient, integrated network infrastructures that support the convergence and interoperability of heterogeneous domains, such as wireless networking, IoT, and mobile and distributed computing. The project considers four use cases targeting: - Sustainable networks for disaster handling - Immersive Experience with Real-time XR/holographic communications - Digital Twin for Integrated 6G Network Evaluation - Multi-RAT O-RAN enabled NPN for supporting time sensitive applications for Industry 4.0. To ensure the diverse skills and technical expertise required to achieve the project's objectives, UNITY-6G has assembled a robust consortium of 20 partners from 11 European countries. Led by UNITY-6G Coordinator, Dr. Engin Zeydan (CTTC), the partners were strategically selected to address the technical demands of the project and maximize the successful exploitation of its outcomes. The UNITY-6G consortium consists of two mobile network operators, three equipment and hardware/software vendors, a satellite operator, a smart-grid operator, two universities, five research centers, and six well-established SMEs.
