Untrashd

Untrashd's mission is to help identify trash quickly and efficiently using AI technology - all with the express goal of helping councils and waste management companies identify trash and optimise its pickup to reduce pollution and effort. In order to achieve this, we first need to collect some data about trash. Our app, trashin, does exactly that. With your help of course! Whenever you see trash in the streets, in fields or anywhere else, all you have to do is pull out your phone, and take a picture. It's that simple! Nothing else is collected from you, just the picture. No location. No device information. You don't even have to create an account. Once you take the picture, you never see it again as none of the pictures are saved to the camera roll either, so your camera roll will remain uninterrupted with random images of ugly litter in between. So what happens to the images? Well, it gets sent to our cloud database, where we give each image a unique identifier. The images are then collected and used as training inputs to a classification network. This classification network is where the heart of our project lies. It will be used in future, larger scale projects to fuel our long term goal and vision of cleaning up the planet using smart, autonomous technology. Please note that, any irrelevant images that do not pertain to litter or trash, will be discarded as this will negatively impact our work.
