University of Bristol Oxfam Junior Lawyers Against Poverty Society

Oxfam Lawyers Against Poverty, a registered charity, is currently focused on: - Gender-based violence and women's property rights - Access to justice - Right to food, including land rights and food security laws - Legal support for governments and lawyers in developing communities As students, we will mainly focus on the following activities: 1) Fundraising for the Oxfam Lawyers Against Poverty division http://www.oxfam.org.uk/lawyers-against-poverty Some examples of the parent organisation's work includes sending lawyers to Yemen to provide legal aid for women in prison and helping the Uganda Women's Network to put pressure on the government to implement Ugandan legislation so that women are protected from violence and have access to justice. We will be supporting ground-breaking legal projects that will give the poorest and most vulnerable people greater knowledge of their rights and access to justice to help them break free from poverty. 2) Raising awareness for the legal issues which impoverished nations face through blogging and campaigns 3) Setting up a twinning programme with a university in Gambia
