Our Institute houses a multi-disciplinary centre of excellence conducting fundamental and translational life science research underpinning health and food security. IMCSB provides an integrative environment aimed at driving basic and applied research of the highest standard from the molecular and cellular level to whole organisms and systems.
IMCSB was formed as part of the College of Medical, Veterinary & Life Sciences and comprises more than 20 principle investigators. These together with their associated teams make up a total staff and student number in excess of 200. This research core is also supplemented by associate and affiliate members, as well as international and industrial links.
MCSB is located within the central Gilmorehill Campus. Staff are closely integrated within a research hub formed between the Davidson, Bower and Joseph Black Buildings.
This centralised research triangle provides a unique multi-disciplinary research environment for both young and established scientists wishing to solve key challenges facing both human health and food security. Our research aligns with the strategic priorities of major funders and our research is supported by funds from the UK research councils (BBSRC. EPSRC and MRC), Wellcome Trust, Leverhulme Trust, and the European Research Commission.
Staff within MCSB are also deeply integrated into the undergraduate degree programmes available within the School of Life Sciences. MCSB offers a number of postgraduate taught courses that link with our research themes.
