The University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG), established in 1965, comprises five Schools: (1). Business and Public Policy (SBPP); (2). Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS); (3). Law (SOL); (4). Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS); and (5). Natural and Physical Sciences (SNPS). Geology was established as a separate department in 1973. The first graduates were produced at the end of 1978. The Earth Sciences Division is one of the six Divisions in the SNPS. The Division is the only tertiary entity in Papua New Guinea (PNG), which produces geologists and geoscientists. The Division is housed at Science 3 Building, SNPS, Waigani Campus, Port Moresby Northwest, National Capital District.
