About Uganda Pentecostal University
The Uganda Pentecostal University (UPU) was founded by Prof. John Ntambirweki in February 2001 as a private tertiary education institution, the Grotius School of Law Professional Studies. It commenced its operations in 2001, admitting its first students in law at its then campus in Mengo, Kampala. Initially, UPU operated as an independent institution affiliated to Busoga University but having separate management. The institution continued to operate as such until July 2004, when the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) directed it to register as a separate institution. This directive was based on the fact that Busoga University was a young University with provisionally licensed institution could not affiliate another institution nor nurture it optimally. After a long period of preparation and negotiations, the school was renamed Uganda Pentecostal University and registered with the Registry of Companies as a company limited by guarantee. In September 2005, the University obtained a provisional license to operate as a University. The University became one of the few recognized by the Uganda Law Council to teach approved law courses. Today, UPU has five faculties: Law, Arts and Social Sciences, Information Technology, Business Administration and Journalism & Communication. UPU has its main campus situated at Muchwa in Fort Portal Municipality 300km west of Kampala, the former Capital of the Western Uganda Province. The University also operates liaison Centre in Wakaliga, Rubaga Division Kampala.
