About UrbanM2O Project

URBAN M2O is an EU-funded project focused on improving how cities monitor and manage water quality. The project aims to generate the critical insights needed to design and implement risk-based urban water quality management plans, ensuring healthier environments, resilient infrastructure, and zero pollution impact on people and nature. With a diverse consortium of 20 partners, URBAN M2O delivers: ✅ AI-enhanced, resource-efficient monitoring technologies ✅ Integrated water quality models and harmonized data systems ✅ Open-access digital twins to pinpoint pollution hotspots ✅ Tailored guidance to help urban water managers prioritise actions URBAN M2O will bring its cutting-edge solutions to life in three operational Case Studies, each chosen to reflect the diverse challenges faced by European urban water systems: - Barcelona/Sant Adrià de Besòs (BCN CS) – The Water Scarce City A city where water stress is intensified by climate change, BCN CS focuses on integrated monitoring in a complex urban environment, with challenges in water reuse and seasonal variability. - Copenhagen (CPH CS) – The Blue-Green Climate City Known for its forward-thinking climate adaptation, CPH CS will showcase how Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) and hybrid grey-blue-green infrastructure can be effectively monitored and managed for urban resilience. - Zürich (ZRH CS) – The Urban Water Test Lab With advanced infrastructure and digital capabilities, ZRH CS serves as a testbed for quaternary treatment and AI-driven monitoring of emerging pollutants across interconnected water matrices.
