Urban Anna Mae is a new generation of emojis that combines Japanese anime with urban characteristics to represent the multicultural world we live in. The Urban Anna Mae Squad (#UAMSquad) is made up of seven characters all with their own unique styles and their own unique catchphrases. Kohko (Jamaican/Chinese), Mecca (African-American), La La (Trans), Jaaya (Indian), Dominique (Puerto Rican), Naeema (Sudanese Muslim) and Londyn (Nigerian/British). Their ethnicities are reflected in their cultural colloquialisms and urban slang. There are over 90 expressions on the UAM app (pronounced “Wom”), which can be used in IOS messaging, Facebook messenger, WhatsApp, and just about every other messaging tool.
