US DK Expats assists newly relocated individuals, organizations with employees from other countries, and organizations who plan to relocate employees in or out of California or Denmark. US DK Expats' mission is "To educate individuals and organizations about cultural differences and adaptation strategies with the aim to improve the quality of life for expatriates during the early phase of their relocation." For employers, an active approach to the wellbeing of an expat employee can increase the employee's productivity in the new culture, improve understanding of both own and others' value systems, and remove stressors that may come from not knowing about the local customs and/or from having a family that doesn't thrive. Empirical evidence shows, that by reducing the time it takes to adapt in a new place from typically two years to under 18 months can make the difference if a transfer contract may be renewed by the employee or not. For the company the economical pay off from having an employee for four vs two years is evident. The pay off for the employee if the family is happy is priceless.
