Mission: The U.S. National Grid Institute’s mission is to promote awareness and use of the U.S. National Grid standard as the nation’s primary geolocation coordinate system and 'language of location' for emergency response, data analysis, asset management and public mapping.
Purpose:
1.) Promote emergency preparedness, emergency response, public safety, and other public benefits through awareness, understanding, and effective use of the United States National Grid federal geolocation standard;
2.) Facilitate use of the United States National Grid among units of government, non-governmental organizations, institutions of learning, public corporations and private enterprise for the common good; and
3. ) Provide technical expertise, research, facilities, education, and funding to encourage use of the United States National Grid for public benefit.
