UT Story Lab

Welcome to the UT Story Lab, powered by the University of Twente! At the UT Story Lab, we are a dynamic and interdisciplinary group dedicated to exploring and advancing narrative research and practice across various fields, including (Mental) Health, Education, Sustainability, Work and Migration. Our mission is to create innovative, research-based methods and tools that are designed through a collaborative process. Our participatory design approach means we work hand-in-hand with professional stakeholders, participants, artists, designers and researchers to develop applications that are perfectly tailored to their specific needs and contexts. We embrace a wide variety of narrative forms, from written and oral to digital and visual, and incorporate diverse artistic disciplines such as visual art, dance, and theater. We also utilize cutting-edge technologies, including immersive virtual reality and computational narrative methods. Our expertise lies in developing research-informed storytelling methods that: • Support well-being in times of change and disruption, from psychological challenges like critical life events to societal transitions like climate change; • Enable tracing changes in personal and societal stories over time; • Engage audiences with existentially, morally and ethically challenging topics; • Spark the imagination of alternative futures through sensory, embodied, experiential approaches.
