The School of Social Work at the University of Texas at Arlington is one of the nation's largest and most prestigious schools of Social Work. For over 55 years, we’ve been dedicated to educating and developing leaders and scholars committed to social justice. During that time, we have introduced four degree programs, six online graduate certificates, three undergraduate minors, and more.
For undergraduate studies, the School offers the CSWE-accredited Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree with in-person (Arlington campus and at the UTA Fort Worth location) and fully online options.
For graduate studies, the School offers the CSWE-accredited Master of Social Work (MSW) degree. The top-ranked MSW program is offered in person at the Arlington campus at the UTA Fort Worth location and entirely online. MSW students can choose from five specialties: Aging, Mental Health & Substance Misuse, Community & Administrative Practice, Health Care, or Children & Families. Both in-state and out-of-state residents can complete the program online.
BSW and MSW program students can start in summer, fall, or spring.
The school offers two doctorate programs: Doctor of Social Work and PhD in Social Work (new class every Fall semester).
Pending final approval from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, the Doctor of Social Work program is expected to start in January 2026. The DSW will be 100% online and students can choose to start in the spring or summer. This program is designed for working professionals and provides the skills necessary to become leaders and educators in social work.
