We aim to ENhance Science Undergraduate Research Experiences at UTD through the ENSURE Program. This program provides students with year-round biomedical research experience opportunities and mentorship. The program was previously externally funded by the Communities Foundation of Texas’ W.W. Caruth, Jr. Fund and is currently funded internally through the UTD School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences, School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, the Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science, and the Hobson Wildenthal Honors College.
There is a deficit in access to undergraduate research opportunities for many students who have the potential to make a broad impact in biomedical sciences. These students are less likely to participate in research because they have not received formal laboratory training, know less about biomedical research careers, and are less able to afford to volunteer for research.
The goal of this program is to directly combat these obstacles to create an environment where all students can flourish in our existing strong biomedical research atmosphere.
To prepare our ENSURE fellows for multiple areas of graduate research studies, we have included significant course-based training opportunities to complement lab research and professional workshops.
