Our commitment to train the next generation of storytellers began more than a century ago in 1923 when the first journalism classes at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville were offered through the English Department. Since then, we have continually adapted to prepare students to excel in the media environment of the day. Combining enduring journalistic standards with hands on opportunities from day one, the School of Journalism & Media continues to prepare our students for the future of media. We are confident that the breadth of media education available through our different major concentrations and minors, along with the engaged learning opportunities in the College of Communication and Information via WUTK- 90.3 The Rock, Land Grant Films, The Volunteer Channel, The Daily Beacon, Ablaze Magazine, WUOT-FM, and Lumos Media Services, will assure that our students are empowered to pursue the journalistic and creative interests that best align with their specific career goals.
