UTSA Chemistry

Our department emphasizes cutting-edge research directed to the preparation of our students for competitive future careers. Diverse opportunities are provided by our faculty in fields of specialization that extend from the classical subdivisions of chemistry to biochemistry, medicinal chemistry, and materials chemistry. Interdisciplinary interactions on the UTSA campus, including those with the Center for Innovative Drug Discovery and the emerging Materials Science Program and Brain Health Consortium, are vibrant and growing. Collaborative research opportunities through the University of Texas Health and the Southwest Research Institute, both a short distance from UTSA, add to the research vitality that can be found through graduate studies in chemistry. Our faculty bring experiences from the pharmaceutical industry and from highly ranked graduate and undergraduate academic institutions, and they have strong international connections. One of our faculty is Editor-in-Chief of a top-ranking journal of the American Chemical Society, and others are very well connected professionally to the chemistry and biochemistry communities.
