Utu Wetu (meaning “our collective humanity” or “our inherent dignity” in Kiswahili), co-founded by Christine Alai and Lydia Muthiani in 2018, is a think-tank and collective of women’s and girls’ human rights experts collaborating to enrich the landscape of legal advocacy, capacity enhancement, and movement building to advance women’s and girls’ human rights in Kenya, Africa and globally.
We aim to achieve our vision and mission through survivor-centered and human-rights-based approaches to address various forms of gender-based violence and violations, which cause and perpetuate inequalities and discrimination against women and girls.
